Ice Tigers put up fight against Los Alamos

The Taos Ice Tigers hosted a series of alternatin­g double headers between the 10U and 12U teams of Taos against the Los Alamos Hockey Associatio­n 10U and 12U teams on Sunday (Jan. 29).

Pucking-off at 8:30 a.m., the 10U Ice Tigers started out positively for the home-side teams, winning a hard-fought match in which they were behind 2-3 after two periods. Three goals for Taos in the third period gave the 10U Ice Tigers the 5-3 winning edge. Kellen Emory-Crowther contribute­d to the victory with a hat trick.

The 12U Ice Tigers followed up that performanc­e with a 1-5 defeat to Los Alamos. Bobick Teagan was the lone scorer for Taos in the second period.

In the rematch between the 10U teams, Los Alamos was able to keep Taos at bay in spite of two goals scored by the Ice Tigers early in the third period to bring it within one goal at 3-4. It was a relatively clean game as only one penalty infraction was called. Oliver Burrows of Los Alamos was booked for hooking in the first period. EmoryCrowt­her registered a brace plus an assist in the contest.

The Los Alamos 12U team lived inside of the attacking zone for much of the second match against the Ice Tigers. Taos put up 10 shots, whereas Los Alamos blasted 20 shots toward the net for a total of eight goals. Half of those points were scored by Weiland Keresey.

Taos eventually broke through the Los Alamos defense in the third period with a goal scored by Emilia Pena, assisted by Troy Edmiston.

Up next, the 10U Ice Tigers will host the Mustangs at the Youth and Family Center on Saturday (Feb. 11). The 12U Ice Tigers will have their next home game on Sunday (Feb. 26) against the New Mexico Ice Wolves.
