Taos Women at FEMeeting
AGNES CHAVEZ, the founder of STEMarts Lab, is currently involved in bringing a unique gathering to Taos called FEMeeting.
“I experienced it for myself in Portugal and it has had a huge impact on my life to meet these women/femaleidentifying professionals from around the world working in the fields of art, science and technology (not necessarily all three),” says Chavez.
Currently, there are 77 applicants, 10 countries and 52 applicants from the U.S., most of which travel every year to the annual event which has taken place in Portugal, Berlin and the Catskills, N.Y.”
FEMeeting is co-founded by Portuguese artist/curators Marta de Menezes and Dalila Hon rato. This meeting in Taos will be led by de Menezez (and some of the regular participants). This is the second time FEMeeting comes to the U.S. A few examples of countries submitted so far are: Slovakia,, Hong Kong, Ecuador, Chile, Peru, Canada, Austria, Norway, Spain and Croatia.
“As the local coordinator, I am now reaching out to Taos women that I think could really benefit from and enjoy this unique experience,” explains Chavez.
What’s happening:
The closed sessions, where speakers share work, have meals together and get to know each other, are happening July 24-27 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. All participants in the closed sessions need to share out in a 10-minute time slot. To be part of the closed sessions, the hosts ask that you register by the end of next week so they have a final head count for planning purposes. The fee for these sessions includes the conference’s folder, refreshments during the conference coffee breaks, and expenses concerning the editing of the book of abstracts. If you wish to receive an invitation letter for a funding request at your institution, or request for a fee waiver, email femeeting@cultivamoscultura.org.
There is a free day on Friday July 28, followed by two public sessions that you can register to attend as the date nears. The host for the public session on July 29 is the Arthur Bell Harwood auditorium in partnership with the Harwood Museum of Art in Taos. SciArt Santa Fe will be hosting the second public session on July 30, which will be held as a LASER (Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous) talk.
Public sessions are an opportunity to present to a wider audience selected research topics developed by a sample of speakers at FEMeeting Taos 2023.
The closed sessions will be a great way to share work and be introduced to interesting cutting-edge research, work, and people in the fields of art, science, and technology. The open call closes on Friday, March 10, but this “Taos Call” is open until next week.
Free. For more information and to register, email femeeting@cultivamoscultura.org.
