Rocky Mountain Cannabis and Plant Base Cafe to host free buffet

This Easter Sunday, Plant Base Cafe and Rocky Mountain Cannabis are partnering up to host Spring Community Day, an event focused on feeding people for free.

“The idea is that people who aren’t vegan or plant-based can try food that is an alternative to what they’re eating,” said Frankie Valdez, owner of Plant Base Cafe. “My motto is ‘the food’s so good you don’t notice it’s plant-based.’ Kind of funny, but it’s true. If you have good food, it doesn’t matter if it’s plant-based or meat-based — it’s good food. People like it no matter what.”

The event, which will be held on Easter Sunday (April 9), is open to all. Guests will be able to enjoy vegan and plant-based food, as well as locally sourced eggs, cheese and meat — for the omnivores. To Valdez, the objective of the event is to feed as many people as possible — no matter their diet — while simultaneously promoting veganism and spreading hunger awareness.

Valdez plans to provide a bison from the Taos Pueblo for those who wish to eat meat. He considers bison meat a vastly more acceptable alternative to purchasing factory-farmed meat.

This is not the first event like this that the two businesses have hosted. The two came together this past Thanksgiving and Christmas to provide free meals to those with empty stomachs. Both events had turnouts of roughly 350 people, and just like the past two events, guests are encouraged to come back for seconds and thirds.

The event will also feature live music from local artists, and all food will be organic and local.
