The Taos Youth Hockey Associatio­n’s Tigers are leaving an indelible mark across all divisions this year. The commitment, grit and determinat­ion displayed by both the newest and youngest players to the high school team are unmatched, standing as a testament to the Taos Hockey community’s unwavering dedication to one another.

Saturday triumph in Ice Wolves territory

On Saturday morning (Feb. 3), the 12U Jr. Tigers took to the ice against the formidable New Mexico Ice Wolves. Leif Hurtado, Quino Mandredi, Quino Poffenroth Prato and Brill Soule’s goals led to a convincing 6-2 victory. Later that afternoon, the Jr. Tigers swiftly defeated NMIce with an 11-1 score, showcasing exceptiona­l passing and goal assists.

Sunday spectacle

Back on home ice on Sunday morning, a tenacious 10u Jr. Tigers faced off against the Santa Fe Capitals, resulting in an 8-8 tie. Kellen Emory-Crowther’s six goals and Aries Edmiston’s two matched the Capitals’ intensity.

In their second game of the double-header, the Tigers secured a 6-3 victory — which included Stephen Wilcomb’s back-to-back goals within 30 seconds of each other in the first period. The 10u

Tigers maintain an undefeated record heading into the upcoming Mile High Meltdown Tournament in Denver, Colorado over President’s Day weekend.

In Santa Fe, the 12u Peewees concluded their weekend with two strong games, finishing 7-0 and 6-6 against the Capitals team.

“In all, the 12u team outscored opponents 31 to 9 in four games,” coach Mark Richert said. “Notable achievemen­ts included various different players scoring goals, three different goalies earning victories, and others, like Winterfox Lujan and Wiley Ireland making significan­t contributi­ons.”

Earlier this year, the 12u Pee Wee Hockey Team attended the Pikes Peak Tournament in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where they faced stiff competitio­n but played well overall Jan. 12-15.

Upon returning to their home state, the pee wees swept their opponents and went 5-0 with wins over Los Alamos, New Mexico Ice Wolves and NMAHA (Rio Rancho) Scorpions Jan. 23-25.

The 12u pee wees will join their 10u Tigers teammates in the Mile High Meltdown Feb. 16-19.
