Animal welfare nonprofit seeks support
Dinner fundraiser set for April 16 at El Monte
El Monte Sagrado Chef Cristina Martinez will host a dinner fundraiser, “A Night of Compassion and Hope,” Tuesday (April 16) at the hotel in support of Taos Mesa Animal Sanctuary, a local nonprofit that has been caring for at-risk animals since 2022, according to a press release.
The event will take place from 5:30-8 p.m. and will include music and food prepared by the El Monte Sagrado kitchen staff. El Monte Sagrado is located at 317 Kit Carson Road in Taos. Tickets are $80 per person. Vegetarian options and alcohol will also be available at no additional cost.
All proceeds go toward support the nonprofit’s services.
Taos Mesa Animal Sanctuary was founded in 2022 by Arianna Solare, who works alongside four other staff members. The organization maintains a board of four, including Carla Hart, Mala Mukherji, Barbara Agnello and Cyril Martinez, the owner of Avalyn’s Pet Spa and a lifelong community animal advocate.
“Our goal remains to provide safety and long-term rehabilitation for the under-served, homeless and neglected animal population,” reads a press release. “We work with other shelters and rescues with a primary focus on the rehabilitation of fearful, atrisk animals.
“TMAS also receives animals in emergent situations, such as the many who have been abused, abandoned and/or with special needs animals. When possible, our goal is to re-house; however, some animals face overwhelming obstacles prior to finding a home. For some, TMAS is a crucial half-way house, for others, it will be their lifelong home.”
