2018 BY­RON, GA- Jimmy “Monk” King, 74, passed away Thurs­day, Novem­ber 8, 2018. A cel­e­bra­tion of his life will be held Mon­day, Novem­ber 12, 2018 at 11:00am in the Chapel of Ma­con Me­mo­rial Park Fu­neral Home with Rev. Phil Bryant of­fi­ci­at­ing. Burial will fol­low in Ma­con Me­mo­rial Park Ceme­tery. The fam­ily will greet friends Sun­day af­ter­noon from 3:00 pm un­til 5:00pmat the fu­neral home.

Jimmy was born in Ma­con to the late Ja­cob and Della Smith King and­was pre­ceded in death by hiswife, Verna Johns King. He served in the United States Navy and was an air­craft me­chanic at Robins Air Force Base. He­was also amem­ber of Lawrence Drive Bap­tist Church.

Jimmy had a pas­sion for the game of soft­ball. He­was a long­time coach of girls’ soft­ball, coach­ing both of his daugh­ters. He and Verna spent many years play­ing at Rut­land Soft­ball Park. Jimmy led Lady Elite to sev­eral cham­pi­onships through­out four years, cul­mi­nat­ing in un­de­feated State and SE Re­gional Cham­pi­onships in 1987. In later years he coached the Bloom­field Mav­er­icks and sev­eral recre­ational teams in By­ron. Jimmy made many life­long friends on the soft­ball field. His fond­est mem­o­ries were of his years play­ing and coach­ing soft­ball.

Sur­vivors in­clude his daugh­ters, Tracey (Brad) Har­rel­son and Jen­nifer (BJ) Sum­ner; and grand­chil­dren, Kay­ley and Bre­anna Har­rel­son and Tyler Sum­ner.
