Mercer bas­ket­ball teams to host dou­ble­header be­cause of NC weather

Mercer bas­ket­ball will hold a dou­ble­header on Satur­day due to a sched­ule change.

The Mercer women’s game against Charlotte has been moved from its orig­i­nal Sun­day tip-off.

The game will be held Satur­day at 1 p.m. due to in­clement weather in the Charlotte area ex­pected on Sun­day, ac­cord­ing to a press re­lease. The Bears are com­ing off of a one point loss to Florida State on Wed­nes­day and are 4-5 on the sea­son.

Charlotte is 5-2 on the sea­son in­clud­ing a dou- ble-digit loss to Wake For­est on Wed­nes­day.

The Mercer team is also run­ning a pro­mo­tion for Toys for Tots. Fans can do­nate a toy and in re­turn re­ceive a free ticket to the game. Do­na­tions will start at 12 p.m. at the ticket of­fice lo­cated out­side of Hawkins Arena in­side the Univer­sity Cen­ter.

The women’s game will be fol­lowed by the Mercer men’s game against Ge­or­gia South­ern at

4 p.m. The men’s team is back home af­ter los­ing at Florida At­lantic on Wed­nes­day.

The Bears are 4-5 on the sea­son and have dropped two straight for the first time this sea­son. The Bears are 2-1 this sea­son against in-state teams with the lone loss com­ing against Ge­or­gia State by a score of 62-60.

Ge­or­gia South­ern has dropped two games in row in­clud­ing a 100-70 loss to Ari­zona in its last game af­ter start­ing the sea­son un­de­feated at 5-0.
