Law Enforcement Explorers to host open house
NORRISTOWN » The Greater Norristown Area Law Enforcement Post 752 is holding an open house Thursday, Nov. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. in council chambers on the first floor of Municipal Hall, 235 E. Airy St.
The Law Enforcement Explorer Program is open to youth ages 14-20 who have an interest in pursuing a career in law enforcement.
Law Enforcement Explorers of Post 752 recently completed a 10-plus week training scenario led by Norristown police Officer Brian Kozera.
The Explorers got to experience firsthand every step of how to respond to, investigate, and process an armed commercial robbery.
The staged event began at the 7-Eleven on East Johnson Highway, where police department staff acted as the armed robber and witnesses.
Each week the explorers were trained on areas that included taking statements, processing the crime scene, and participated in a K-9 track resulting in the arrest of the suspect.
The event culminated with the Explorers obtaining a statement from the suspect and presenting their case with the assistance of the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and the Office of the Public Defender at a preliminary hearing in front of District Justice Margaret Hunsicker.
The training scenario is just one aspect of the program which is designed to boost self confidence and enhance personal development by providing challenging training and discipline applicable
