Rams defend way past Trojans
Pennridge tightens up defense in win over Wissahickon
AMBLER » Dean Behrens figured his team was going to be a little rusty at the start of Saturday’s game, but it didn’t stop him from calling a quick timeout.
Pennridge was behind by five points to Wissahickon and the last thing Behrens wanted was for the Trojans to keep building their lead. The message got across, the Rams locked down defensively and found themselves up at the end of the first quarter.
The Rams were able to grind out a road win over a very good Wissahickon team, 62-54 on Saturday. Pennridge 62, Wissahickon 54 Up next for Pennridge: The Rams host CB West on Tuesday. Up next for Wissahickon: The Trojans host Cheltenham on Tuesday.
“We like playing Wissahickon, I think Kyle Wilson is one of the top coaches in the area and his teams are always prepared,” Behrens said. “It always gives us a measuring stick of where we are. Today was a game of two teams who were just going to battle after not practicing or playing for a few days. They’ve got some good shooters, so we felt like we beat a really good basketball team today.”
The snow that rolled through the area seemed to affect both teams. Pennridge(7-3) started slow, while Wissahickon just couldn’t get a bucket for stretches of the first half. Wiss (6-2), which likes to use the outside shot as a complement to its guard-heavy lineups, was just 3-of-13 from beyond the arc in the first half.
A 10-0 Rams run midway through the first quarter erased Wissahickon’s 7-2 lead and put Pennridge up 12-5 with 1:57 left
