Tran, Lutschauni­g fall short at states

Wissahicko­n’s Andrew Tran had his postseason run end in the second round of the PIAA Class 3A Tournament Friday.

Tran began the day in Hershey with a 6-0, 6-2 rout of Nick Vanden of State College. That left him in to face Dallastown’s Holden Koons, the District 3 champion and one of the top players in Middle States. Tran lost a heartbreak­er in the first set, dropping a tiebreaker by an 8-6 score.

The second set was was another tough one with Tran falling short 6-4.

La Salle’s Andrew Lutschauni­g had a similar fate, winning his opening round in thrilling fashion over Peters Township’s Conner Bruce, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4. He then faced Great Valley’s Sameer Gangoli, the District 1 champion. Lutschauni­g did well for himself before falling short 6-4, 6-4.

In doubles action, North Penn’s Frank Yanni and Ansh Sharma fell short in the first round to Shady Side’s Dua Naman/Colin Gramley in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. La Salle’s duo of Dan Porreca/Owen DeAngelis also lost in the first round, dropping a 6-4, 6-1 decision to Hampton’s Ben Ringeisen/Ted Donegan, 6-4, 6-1.
