Tran, Lutschaunig fall short at states
Wissahickon’s Andrew Tran had his postseason run end in the second round of the PIAA Class 3A Tournament Friday.
Tran began the day in Hershey with a 6-0, 6-2 rout of Nick Vanden of State College. That left him in to face Dallastown’s Holden Koons, the District 3 champion and one of the top players in Middle States. Tran lost a heartbreaker in the first set, dropping a tiebreaker by an 8-6 score.
The second set was was another tough one with Tran falling short 6-4.
La Salle’s Andrew Lutschaunig had a similar fate, winning his opening round in thrilling fashion over Peters Township’s Conner Bruce, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4. He then faced Great Valley’s Sameer Gangoli, the District 1 champion. Lutschaunig did well for himself before falling short 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles action, North Penn’s Frank Yanni and Ansh Sharma fell short in the first round to Shady Side’s Dua Naman/Colin Gramley in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. La Salle’s duo of Dan Porreca/Owen DeAngelis also lost in the first round, dropping a 6-4, 6-1 decision to Hampton’s Ben Ringeisen/Ted Donegan, 6-4, 6-1.
