The BeBe Day Picnic, which celebrates the beloved Brenda’s legacy surrounding her 30-plus years as the office manager of Community Day Care Center in Norristown, where she was fondly known as “Ms. BeBe,” has been a painstakingly rendered labor of love for Peggy for 14 years now.

This year the BeBe Day Picnic will be held Sunday, June 10, from 1-7 p.m. (rain or shine), at Stanbridge Street

A boycott by Eagles’ players and the president’s decision to cancel an invitation causes another controversy. The annual free picnic that pays homage to the late Brenda Davenport Howard will be held at Stanbridge Street Park on Sunday.

Park, 2300 Stanbridge St., East Norriton.

A free picnic for one and all as a tribute to Brenda, who sadly passed away at age 57 in 2004, was initially the idea of Peggy’s sister, Barbara Davenport Spencer, who passed away in 2007.

It’s been up to Peggy and her family to carry on with BeBe Day ever since.

“My sister was the one who started this and now I’m making sure it continues. After I’m gone my kids know to keep it going,” Peggy said.

On the menu on Sunday will be all the crowd-pleasing favorites, including fried chicken and a host of side dishes, all whipped up by Peggy and her family.

As always, raffle tickets will be available for baskets of goodies and a 40-inch TV. All of the proceeds go to the BeBe Day Fund, which provides cash gifts to graduates from pre-K to college. Donations are accepted. “Brenda was always trying to do things for kids, so we do this in her name,” Peggy noted. “BeBe Day is not just about our family, it’s about all families.”
