NPD to adopt families for holidays
The Norristown Police Department is looking for seven families to adopt for Christmas.
The “Seven Days Before Christmas” program aids families going through hardships during the holiday season.
Through this program, the Norristown Police Department, along with other organizations, are afforded the opportunity to assist local families with gifts of hope, encouragement, and caring to those who need it most. As a Norristown resident, you may nominate a family in need or your own.
In order to apply, residents must submit a letter to include:
• Number of children under age 16, with clothing and shoe sizes
• Names and genders of the children
• Names of adults living in the home.
All community members are invited to apply from 10/12/2018 until 11/16/2018. Please submit your letter to Lt. Michael Bishop, Special Operations Commander, by email at mbishop@norristown.org or via US Mail at 235 East Airy Street, Norristown, Pa 19401.

NFD to distribute Thanksgiving dinners
The Norristown Fire Department announced they will distribute their 4th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for Norristown families in need.
Fire Chief Tom O’Donnell has coordinated this event for the 4th straight year after recognizing the need in the community. “The Fire Department looks for opportunities to give back. It’s an initiative we hold close to our hearts.” Said Fire Chief O’Donnell.

Full turkey dinners with all the trimmings will be provided to selected families by the Norristown Fire Department staff and volunteers on Wednesday, November 21st. Pick up will take place at the Montgomery Hose Fire House at 201 West Freedley Street from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M.
This program would not be possible without the help of local businesses who donated towards the dinners; Aman’s Indian Bistro, USM, JP Warner Benefits, Randolph Insurance, Dekalb Street Thriftway, Sav-A-Lot, Altieri Meats and Signarama.

Norristown hosts for ‘Drug Take Back Day’
On Saturday October 27, 2018, Norristown Police Department will be a participating drop off point for the safe disposal of unwanted or expired prescription medications. Beginning at 10 am, and lasting until 2 pm, an officer will be present at the police station to accept your unwanted medications, which will then be turned over to the District Attorney’s Office for safe disposal.
John O’Hurley to star at Centre Theater
“Starving Artist Prevention” will present a fourshow run of the children’s musical, The Perfect Dog, by John O’Hurley this November at the newly-renovated Centre Theater at 208 DeKalb Street in Norristown, Pennsylvania.
Starving Artists’ Matt Durkin will produce the show in advance of the Kennel Club of Philadelphia’s National Dog Show at the Expo Center in Oaks. Performances for The Perfect Dog are slated for Friday, November 9 (7:30 p.m.), Saturday, November 10 (7:30 p.m.), and Sunday, November 11 (2 p.m.). Cost for admission is $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 years and under and adults 65 and older.
There will be a special talkback performance with John O’Hurley on Thursday, November 15 (7:30 p.m.). Cost for admission for the special performance is $25 for adults and $20 for children 12 years and under and adults 65 and older.

A portion of the proceeds will support To Love a Canine Rescue, Inc., a non-profit, all breed, foster-based, rescue operating in suburban Philadelphia. To Love a Canine Rescue will hold a Meet and Greet with dogs available for adoption prior to the start of each performance.
The Perfect Dog was adapted from the book of the same name by John O’Hurley, the author and television personality who hosts the Philadelphia-based National Dog Show Presented by Purina Thanksgiving Day special on NBC. O’Hurley, best known for his role as catalogue king J. Peterman on Seinfeld, will attend the Thursday, November 15 show and do a talk-back with the audience following the closing songs, at approximately 8:45 PM.
The shows are part of National Dog Show Month in Philadelphia, culminating with the National Dog Show Presented by Purina – hosted by O’Hurley – on NBC 10 Thanksgiving Day from noon to 2 p.m. following the Macy’s Parade.
The two-day Kennel Club of Philadelphia’s National Dog Show is one of only three remaining “benched” shows in America, meaning the dogs and their handlers are in designated locations all day to meet and greet the public when they are not competing for “Best in Show.” The shows are open to the public. Admission is $16 for adults and $7 for children 12 - 4. Children three and under are admitted free.
Victorian Holiday at Selma Mansion
A Victorian Holiday at Selma Mansion, 1301 W. Airy Street, Norristown will be celebrated Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Help make decorations for the Christmas tree, listen to the Victorian Revelers, shop the vendors, purchase baked goods. Visit the Raffle Room and take a chance or two. Admission fee for this event is a donation of non-perishable items which will benefit the Patrician Society Food Bank. Helping local families in the community.
NAHS Class of 1973 to hold reunion
Saturday, October 27: The 45th reunion will be held at the Empress Room at St. Helena’s Church on DeKalb Pike in Blue Bell. The night promises to be a fun evening including a buffet dinner and BYOB along with remembrances, raffles and dancing.
