Salvation Army kicks off Red Kettle bell campaign

The Salvation Army of Norristown celebrated the season of generosity with its annual Red Kettle Kick-Off, on Tuesday morning, Nov. 13, on the steps of the Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown.

The Kettle Kick-Off featured live festive music from The Salvation Army’s Brass ensemble, and free coffee and hot chocolate served from its Emergency Disaster Services canteen truck. Salvation Army officers, staff and volunteers were also joined by Montgomery County Commission­ers’ Chair Dr. Valerie A. Arkoosh, Montgomery County Commission­er Joseph C. Gale, Montgomery County Commission­er Ken Lawrence and other local officials. The County Commission­ers joined together and made the first ceremonial donation to The Salvation Army of Norristown’s 2018 Red Kettle Campaign (seen in photos.)

campaign will fund local programs that provide opportunit­ies and change lives year round. Community members can place monetary donations inside the red kettles, which will be stationed in prominent retail locations such as Walmart and Shop Rite until December 24.

The Salvation Army is committed to “doing the most good” in Norristown – serving thousands of people locally each year by providing transition­al housing for families, “Code Blue” emergency overflow shelter services, music education and instructio­n for youth, summer camp, a senior support program, holiday meals and gift distributi­on to families in need, community meals and an emergency food pantry.
