Alice Marie Carter of Norristown

Alice Marie Carter, age 89, of Norristown, Pennsylvania, peacefully ascended to our Lord on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, surrounded by her family at home.

She was born on November 10, 1929, as the only daughter to John J. and Helen (Shadel) Carlin.

She earned her nursing degree from St. Mary’s Hospital and Nursing School and became a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army between 1950 and 1952. She practiced nursing for 40 years, loved by patients and respected by colleagues for her tenacious dedication to providing exceptional primary care and compassion.

Alice lived life to its fullest, making friends wherever she went and providing a strong role model for her family in devotion, courage, and duty. She never missed an opportunity to dance, talk with a friend or send words of encouragement to those she loved.

Four brothers and two grandchildren preceded Alice in death. She is survived by her eight children: Gail Volpe, Mary McConnell, James Carter, Gregory Carter, Diane Carter, William Carter, Wynell Schatz, and Helen Carter; ten grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. Alice survived to see her first great great granddaughter born September of this year.

Family, friends and others whose lives Alice touched are invited to Boyd Horrox Funeral Home on 200 W. Germantown Pike in Norristown on Wednesday, November 28th, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, November 29th, from 9 to 10 a.m., to reminisce, grieve and celebrate her life. A Mass at St. Francis of Assisi, 600 Hamilton St. will follow at 10:30 a.m. She will be buried at St. Patrick’s Cemetery on DeKalb Pike.

Donations can be made to the Padre Pio Shrine in Barto, PA in lieu of flowers, if desired.
