Kelce, Peters still question marks
Offensive linemen battling injuries ahead of Sunday’s clash vs. Redskins
PHILADELPHIA >> Eagles center Jason Kelce didn’t practice Thursday, which necessitated veteran guard Stefen Wisniewski collecting the first-team snaps with the offense. Kelce is nursing a sore knee. Wisniewski made his 100th career start last Sunday in the Eagles’ 32-30 win over the Houston Texans. He played left guard alongside tackle Halapoulivaati Vaitai, who stepped in when Jason Peters exited with a quadriceps issue. Peters was limited at practice per the injury report.
If Kelce and Peters are unable to compete, the Eagles are looking at an offensive line of, from left to right, Big V, Isaac Seumalo, Wiz, Brandon Brooks and Lane Johnson.
“Everybody needs to be prepared to play,” offensive coordinator Mike Groh said. “So V, to his credit, is prepared whenever his number is called because he never knows exactly when that time might come. He was able to go in there and play well enough to give us an opportunity to win, which against that guy is a tremendous task.”
Vaitai took on Jadeveon Clowney, the Texans’ Pro Bowl pass rusher.
Elsewhere on the injury report, held out of practice were defensive end Michael Bennett (foot), linebacker Jordan Hicks (calf), cornerback Sidney Jones (hamstring) and quarterback Carson Wentz (back).
Limited in practice in addition to Peters and Seumalo (pectoral) were linebacker D.J. Alexander (hamstring) and wide receiver Mike Wallace (ankle).
