District hoop brackets unveiled
The District 1-6A boys and girls basketball tournaments were unveiled Monday at Penncrest High School. Although unofficial until Monday at noon, the local team made out quite well. In the boys field, Abington, Pennridge, Norristown, Methacton and Perk Valley all received byes. The Ghosts are the No. 1 seed, followed by Methacton at 2. North Penn made the final team in the field and will visit Cheltenham in a first-round contest. PW is only seeded 11th but will get a home game with 22ndseeded Haverford and a possible second-round date at No. 6. Chester.
In the girls field, Abington, Souderton, Upper Dublin and Spring-Ford all received byes. North Penn was seeded 20th and will visit No. 13 Haverford in the first round. PW got the 12th seed and a home game with Bensalem. A win there and the Colonials could see the No. 5 Cardinals of UD once again. The Indians are seeded sixth and will face either No. 11 OJR or No. 22 Coatesville in the second round.
Girls indoor track
WISS AT LEHIGH >> On Friday, the Wissahickon girls Indoor Track Team traveled to Lehigh University to compete in their last regular season meet. Highlights of the evening included Kasi Brown’s 6th place finish in a the long jump, jumping a distance of 16 feet 7.25 inches. In addition, Leike Black placed 11th in the 60 meter dash running the event in 8.27 seconds and Lindsey Frenia placed 10th in the 3000 meters, with a time of 11:15.77. Leike and Lindsey along with Kasi Brown and Maddy Hippensteal have all qualified during the season to compete in the Meet of Champs in their respective events. They will compete next Friday, February 15th at Lehigh University.
