POP AND DIVE
Montco SAAC hosting second annual Corks & Forks fundraiser
The corks will pop and the forks will dive into a diverse array of culinary experiences when the Senior Adult Activities Center of Montgomery County hosts its second annual Corks & Forks fundraiser, a Tasting to Benefit Montco SAAC.
The food and drink festival will take place on Thursday, Feb. 28, 6 to 9 p.m., at Cedarbrook Country Club.
As it did last year, the Montgomery County nonprofit will partner with local restaurants and beverage vendors for an evening of food, drink, music, and fun to ensure that, according to a press release, its three Meals on Wheels programs, two senior centers, and inter-generational art center can continue
to serve thousands of older adults across the region annually.
The release further noted that the senior-centric nonprofit “empowers seniors to live full, meaningful lives by providing to crucial, individualized services such as home delivered meals, educational programming, affordable fitness classes, volunteer opportunities, and access to social workers in an inclusive, welcoming environment.” This approach allows older adults to “remain comfortable, independent, and more involved in their community at every age,” the release added.
“Montco SAAC depends on support from the communities that we serve in order to guarantee vital services for the older adults who rely on them” says Whitney Lingle, the Executive Director of Montco SAAC. “Events like Corks & Forks help provide us with the funding our organization needs, especially when unforeseen costs arise, such as the flooding that our Norristown center experienced this summer. After an especially strong thunderstorm, we had to get our dining room floor completely redone, which was not an inexpensive process.”
On board this year are Five Saints Distillery; Haymaker Meadery; Boardroom Spirits; Forest & Main Brewing Company; Stone & Key Cellars; Bernie’s Glenside; Saffron Indian Kitchen; Banh Street; D&D Ribs; Chalkboard Kitchen; Cedarbrook Country Club; Weavers Way Co-op and Gabby’s Banh Mi.
Live tunes will also be provided by The Tin Roof Drifters and auction items donated by local businesses will be up for bid.
Regarding last year’s participation, John George, owner of the award-winning Five Saints Distilling in Norristown, returning to Corks & Forks, noted: “We’re happy to be representing the municipality of Norristown and to support SAAC. We’re grateful for being invited to participate in this event and to share our fine Norristown-manufactured spirits.”
