Rubber match determines state berth

Plymouth Whitemarsh finished the regular season with a 19-4 record. All four losses came against two teams — Abington and Upper Dublin.

As fate would have it, the Colonials and Cardinals are set to meet in the second round of the District 1 Class-6A playoffs Tuesday at Upper Dublin High School at 7 p.m.

Both meetings between the Suburban One League American Conference rivals have come in the last month and a half. Upper Dublin won at home, 43-22, on January 8 and on the road, 40-22, on February 1.

“We get Upper Dublin, who we lost to twice this year,” PW coach Dan Dougherty said after beating Bensalem in the district opener Friday night, “but we hung with them the first two games.
