FORT WASHINGTON >> In the second round of the PIAA District One 6A tournament, the Upper Dublin girls basketball team dominated on defense to beat Plymouth Whitemarsh on Tuesday night with a final score of 34-18.

Both defenses came out on fire to make it a one-point game after the first quarter.

Upper Dublin outscored the Cardinals 10-3 in the second quarter to gain an 18-10 lead at halftime.

The Cardinals finally got it going on offense along with perfect defense to outscore the Colonials 10-0 to have a 28-10 lead heading into the third quarter.

Both defenses once again came up big in the fourth quarter despite Plymouth Whitemarsh winning the fourth quarter 8-6.

Highlighting the game for the Cardinals was of course the Upper Dublin defense but also the offensive efforts from Jackie Vargas, who scored 13 points in the win.

Upper Dublin will next face either Spring-Ford or Haverford in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
