PLYMOUTH >> Plymouth Township is calling all area veterans. The township’s parks and recreation department has set Nov. 13 as the date for its second annual Veterans Day Celebration and the goal is to recognize as many veterans as possible.

Set for Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m., the recognition event will feature guest speaker Joe Lawrence, the recently retired Plymouth Township Police chief. Lawrence served as a Navy Seabee, a United States Naval Construction Battalion responsible for building naval bases and projects to support disaster and humanitarian relief. Lawrence’s parents both served in World War II and his son is currently commanding a submarine.

Last year’s program featured about 50 veterans, according to Phil Brady, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation. About 80 percent of last year’s attendees were from Plymouth Township or had a connection to the

township, he said.

“We’re hoping it grows a little bit,” Brady said of hopes to see more veterans this year.

New for 2019, the Valley Forge Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. will share a few words. The Marine Corps League will raise the flag and present the colors.

“It’s really a recognition,” Brady said. “It’s a chance to recognize them, to acknowledge and thank them for their service.”
