Crist noted that it’s not that the township is displeased with the current provider, “it’s just part of our due diligence to make sure that we are receiving the best possible services at the best possible prices.”
The board approved Township Manager Robert Hart’s proposal to engage Indian Valley Appraisal Company to appraise three acres of property belonging to St. Titus Catholic Church.
“For the last week and a half we’ve been in close contact with the Archdiocese,
lawyers and the parish … the plans that had been in place for the last so many months for one portion of the property have fallen through,” Hart explained. “We talked about how we will work with the Archdiocese and the neighbors to bring a better plan to that area. It’s a very residential neighborhood area. In years past they put a church there for that community and that worked. But now, as you know, churches are consolidating and these properties are becoming vacant. A Wawa or a gas station doesn’t work in that area. A lot of other things don’t work in that area. So we have offered to work with them and they’re ready to put something in place that benefits the residents of that neighborhood and the township as a whole. This is our first effort in getting an appraisal of that one portion of the property; this is three acres, the total of the property is 13 acres. We’ve been hoping for this for a long time and this is the first step.”
Supervisor Ashley DiPiero announced that East Norriton Little League’s opening day would be April
18 at Cole Manor Elementary School field, complete with a parade.
With several retirements in the police department happening in the next several months, Hart requested authorization to fill the vacancies with three probationary officers, which the board approved.
“Everything is planned out and this will make a much smoother transition,” he said.
It was announced that a “Cops and Cows” event will be held at Chick-Fil-A, 2640 DeKalb Pike, on March 6, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The name refers to the chain’s famous cow mascots who regularly advise the burger-loving public to “eat more chikin.”
During the “Citizens be Heard” portion of the meeting, a resident of
Rolling Green Apartments on Swede Road said he had observed that the basin behind Hillcrest Shopping Center was empty and wanted to know what was going on with it.
He said he had taken photos of the basin.
He was told that the basin was in place to help with storm water runoff and to help create a cleaner environment.
Hart invited the resident to supply the photos to the engineer and the township would come out for a visual and to assess the situation.
Check donations were presented to East Norriton Little League and East Norriton Girls Athletic Association.
Boy Scout Troop 416 was also in attendance for the entire meeting, earning credit for community merit badges.
