Nick Sirianni is the 25th head coach of the Eagles, succeeding Doug Pederson, who was fired two weeks ago.

The Eagles tweeted the formal announcement Sunday.

Sirianni is bringing Indianapolis Colts defensive backs coach Jonanthan Gannon along as his defensive coordinator, per reports. Sirianni, 39, is the Eagles’ youngest head coach since Dick Vermeil was hired in 1976. Vermeil was four months younger than Sirianni.

The Eagles’ youngest head coach was Jim Trimble, who at age 34 coached the team from 1952 through 1955.

The Eagles still were interviewing candidates for offensive coordinator Sunday, per the

NFL Network. But Eagles assistant head coach Duce Staley, a finalist for the head coaching job, wasn’t part of the talks as he’s asked to be released from his contract.

Sirianni grew up in Jamestown, N.Y., played football at Division III Union College and coached at Indiana University of Pa. in the PSAC, among other stops before moving on to bigger and better things, more recently offensive coordinator of the Indianapolis Colts. He’s the third NFL head coach with IUP roots, joining Jim Haslett with the New Orleans Saints (2000) and Ben McAdoo with the New York Giants (2016).

Sirianni’s first news conference with the Eagles will be held this week per a media relations spokesman.
