Chadwick Boseman is posthumously nominated for an Oscar
Half a year after his death, Chadwick Boseman was posthumously nominated for an Academy Award on Monday for his final performance in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”
The nomination for best actor was widely expected but still historic. Boseman is the first Black performer ever nominated posthumously for an Oscar. He was nominated alongside Steven Yeun (“Minari”), Riz Ahmed (“Sound of Metal”), Anthony Hopkins (“The Father”) and Gary Oldman (“Mank”).
Only six actors have previously been nominated after their death: James Dean, Spencer Tracy, Peter Finch, Ralph Richardson, Massimo Troisi and Heath Ledger. Two ultimately won: Finch for his performance in 1976’s “Network” and Ledger for 2008’s “The Dark Knight.”

After Grammy win, singer H.E.R. is heading to the Oscars
NEW YORK >> Just after winning the top Grammy Award for songwriting, R&B singer H.E.R. and her collaborators Tiara Thomas and D’Mile became Oscarnominated songwriters.
H.E.R.’s protest anthem “I Can’t Breathe” won song of the year at Sunday’s Grammys, and another soulful song with poignant lyrics by the singer — “Fight for You” from “Judas and the Black Messiah” — is nominated for best original song at the 2021 Academy Awards.
“I’m feeling crazy man,” H.E.R. said in an interview with The Associated Press. “This just doesn’t happen. It’s just a whole different world I’m stepping into. It’s just a crazy, crazy part of my journey. I never would have imagined this would even happen. I’m super, super grateful. That’s the foundation of how I feel. It’s just gratitude.”
