Aldi opens new grocery in Conshohocken
The chain is on track to become third largest grocer by end of 2022
CONSHOHOCKEN » Grocery chain Aldi has opened a new store in Conshohocken — bringing it one step closer to becoming the third largest U.S. grocery retailer by store count by the end of 2022.
Construction on the new store, at 104 Alan Wood Drive began this summer. A grand opening is slated for Thursday, Oct. 14, with a ribbon cutting scheduled for 9 a.m. The chain currently operates 21 stores in Berks, Chester, Montgomery
and Delaware counties.
“We are excited to open our first Aldi location in Conshohocken. What local shoppers will notice is high-quality, fresh foods and low prices in every aisle of the store, every day,” Bob Grammar, Center Valley regional vice president for Aldi, said in a statement. “We offer a convenient shopping experience with affordable award-winning, sustainable and on-trend goods and look forward to serving Conshohocken customers for many years to come.”
The Aldi business model is “intentionally different,” according to the company, with a focus on offering shoppers the best products at the lowest possible prices.
The new store, like most Aldi stores around the country is about 12,000 square feet, according to Grammar. He added that the consistent size of Aldi stores is
“part of our formula for success.” Every Aldi has a similar layout, which makes the stores easier to navigate, he said.
The stores also feature open ceilings and natural lighting, and are built with environmentally friendly materials, according to a press release.
Another similarity across the country is staffing.
“At Aldi, we streamline our approach to staffing, creating costsaving efficiencies that are passed onto our customers,” Grammar said. The Conshohocken store, like other Aldi stores will have 15-20 employees.
Wages for employees at Aldi’s Conshohocken store start at $15.50 per hour for open store positions and $19 per hour for open warehouse positions, according to Grammar.
