Local employees receive company awards
The two from the North Coventry and Upper Moreland Giant stores are among 17 employees honored by the grocery chain
CARLISLE » Two employees of area Giant Food Stores were among 17 employees recognized during the Giant Company’s recent annual business meeting, held in Hershey.
Mary Marchiondo, who works at the North Coventry store, was recognized as Retail Team Member of the Year; while Deitra Dandridge, who works at the Upper Moreland store was recognized as E-commerce Team Member of the Year.
The awards recognized recipients’ commitment to the company and their efforts to “connect families for a better future,” according to a press release. Awardees did not know ahead of the meeting that they were going to be recognized.
Marchiondo is the bakery manager in the North Coventry Giant, 86 Glocker Way. The Retail Team Member of the Year award is presented to a team member who “consistently provides outstanding customer service, is always willing to support fellow team members and lives by the company’s values.”
Dandridge is the team member relations coordinator in the e-commerce wareroom at the Upper Moreland Giant store, 315 York Road. This was the first year for the Ecommerce Team Member of the Year award, which recognizes a team member who “consistently and enthusiastically provides leadership and support to keep up the momentum behind the company’s e-commerce operations.”
“Over the past year, our team members once again went to great lengths to care for one another, their customers and communities,” Nicholas Bertram, president, The Giant Company, said in a statement. “It’s an incredible honor to celebrate these outstanding leaders who serve as role models for living The Giant Company’s purpose, values and promises, through leadership, support and outstanding performance.”
Additional awards were presented in categories that included: store of the year, category of the year, distribution center team member of the year, transportation team member of the year, support center team member of the year, simplify shopping, inspiring fresh ideas, creating healthier communities, grow through new opportunities, make a difference, and Be You.
A final award, the Presidents’ award, which is presented annually and is voted upon by all the company’s living past presidents. This year’s award was presented to Jessica Fischer, store manager at the Riverwalk Giant, the grocer’s urban flagship store in Philadelphia.
