Yoder sets career-high for Navy

Sean Yoder (Pennridge) scored a career-high 20 points in Navy’s 74-73 win over Princeton on Friday. The senior guard converted 7-of-11 field goals and converted the eventual game-winning free throw in the final seconds. Yoder also added five rebounds, three assists, a block and two steals.

In Monday’s 74-59 season-opening win over William & Mary, Yoder scored 14 points, adding four rebounds and a steal.

• Erik Timko (Methacton) opened his season for Jefferson with 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting, adding four rebounds, an assist and a steal as the Rams topped American Internatio­nal 73-65 on Saturday.

In Sunday’s 81-60 loss to Franklin Pierce, Timko had 14 points, two rebounds and a steal.

• Trent Fisher (Pennridge) tallied 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting, adding eight rebounds, an assist and two blocks for Wilkes in a 6558 loss to Eastern on Saturday.

• Eric Dixon (Abington) scored 20 points with two rebounds, four assists and three blocks as Villanova topped La Salle 81-68 on Monday to open the season. Jordan Longino (Germantown Academy) started, scoring 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting and Chris Arcidiacon­o (Neshaminy) had five points, four rebounds and an assist.

In Friday’s 68-64 loss to Temple, Dixon scored 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting and added five rebounds with an assist. Longino converted 5-of-7 shots for 11 points with three boards and three helpers and Arcidiacon­o had 10 rebounds, two points and an assist.

Women’s soccer

• Mac Pluck (Germantown Academy) had an assist in Duke’s 4-0 win over Radford in Saturday’s firstround NCAA Tournament game. The graduate student started, taking four shots and putting one on goal. Pluck has seven assists on the season.

• Caroline Hassall (Wissahicko­n) made four saves but Cabrini fell 3-2 to DeSales in Saturday’s ECAC Championsh­ips. Alyssa DeGeorge (Archbishop Wood) had a shot in 55 minutes off the bench.

• Alyson Cutter (CB South) assisted the lone goal as top-seeded West Chester edged West Virginia State University 1-0 on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. Nicolette Harrison (Pennridge) had a shot on goal off the bench while Deanna Lebotesis (Neshaminy) played all 90 minutes in midfield to help keep the shutout.

• Lauren McIntyre (Pennridge) scored her first goal of the season as Bloomsburg dropped a 3-2 match to West Virginia State University in Thursday’s opening round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. McIntyre totaled two shots on goal, Riley Spingler (Neshaminy) made four saves in goal and Campbell Power (Souderton) posted five

• Taylor O’Brien (Plymouth Whitemarsh) got her Florida State career off to a quick start, averaging 16.3 ppg in three games for the 3-0 Seminoles.

O’Brien, who came to FSU after four years at Bucknell, went for 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting with three rebounds, two assists and four steals in Monday’s 113-50 win over BethuneCoo­kman.

She added 11 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks in Thursday’s 80-71 win over Kent State.

O’Brien, who leads FSU in minutes, scored 19 points with four rebounds and five steals in Sunday’s 75-70 win over Georgia State.

• Maddie Burke (CB West) debuted for Villanova in Monday’s 60-38 win over Marist, scoring six points and an assist. Burke spent the last two seasons at Penn State.

Lucy Olsen (Spring-Ford) had eight points, nine rebounds, two steals and six assists, Kaitlyn Orihel (Archbishop Wood) had two points and a rebound and Brooke Mullin (Neshaminy) scored seven points with six rebounds, three assists, a block and four steals.

In Friday’s 69-59 win over Princeton, Olsen went for 18 points on 7-of14 shooting with three rebounds and an assist. Burke had three points and a steal, Mullin scored three points with three rebounds, five assists and two blocks and Orihel tallied two points,

two rebounds, an assist and a steal.

• Molly Mascianton­io (Archbishop Carroll) had three points, three rebounds, six assists and three steals for La Salle in Saturday’s 83-64 win over Niagara.

In Thursday’s 69-48 win over Sacred Heart, Mascianton­io scored 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting, 2-of-3 from three, adding seven assists and a rebound. Jaye Haynes (Germantown Academy) added three points, two rebounds and an assist.

La Salle opened the season with a 62-57 loss to Buffalo on Monday. Haynes tallied six points, four rebounds and an assist while Mascianton­io had six points and three assists.

• Kaitlyn Flanagan (Plymouth Whitemarsh) found her way right into the starting lineup for Holy Cross. The freshman started in Monday’s 67-39 win over Merrimack with five points, a rebound, assist and two steals.

In Friday’s 75-55 loss to Marquette, Flanagan posted eight points on 4-of-6 shooting with two rebounds and three assists.

• Mikaela Reese (Souderton) posted a double-double to open the season with DeSales, scoring 10 points with 10 rebounds plus two assists, three blocks and three steals in Saturday’s 90-37 win over PSU-Hazelton. Megan Bealer (Souderton) had six points, two rebounds, three assists and a steal, Kate Early (North Penn) added five points and five rebounds and Olivia Scotti (Neshaminy) had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

In Sunday’s 85-41 win over PSU Schuylkill, Reese notched 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting with seven boards, two assists, four blocks and three steals. Bealer tallied 15 points, three rebounds, three steals, an assist and a block while Early had six points and a rebound and Scotti had seven points and two rebounds.

• Emily Chmiel (CB East) had 16 points and five rebounds as Chestnut Hill College defeated Molloy 70-43 on Sunday. Lauren Crim (Lansdale Catholic) had eight points and five rebounds, Bri Hewlett (North Penn) scored eight points with two rebounds and two assists, Abbey Spratt (CB West) pulled in seven rebounds with three assists and Avery White (Owen J Roberts) had four points, two rebounds and two steals.

In Saturday’s 86-45 win over Queens, Chimel had 19 points and three rebounds. Spratt posted seven points, two rebounds and five assists, Crim scored five with two rebounds and two assists and Hewlett notched two points, two rebounds, two steals and four assists.

• Anna McTamney (Plymouth Whitemarsh) debuted with West Chester after coming over from USciences. The sophomore had 14 points on 6-of10 shooting with two rebounds, three assists, a block and two steals in Saturday’s 104-78 loss against Glenville State.

In Sunday’s 107-102 loss to West Virginia State, McTamney had nine points, five rebounds, a block and steal.

• Jess Polin (Upper Dublin) made her college debut with four points and a rebound in East Stroudsbur­g’s 67-59 win over Virginia Union on Saturday. The guard redshirted last year after tearing an ACL as a senior in high school.

• Lauren Fortescue (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had four rebounds and five assists in her first game

with Christophe­r Newport in Tuesday’s 92-39 win over Averett University. Fortescue is using her fifth season after playing the last four at Salisbury.

Fortescue had two rebounds and a steal in Friday’s 63-53 win over East Texas Baptist and had her best game of the season in Saturday’s 94-48 win over LeTourneau University with eight points on 4-of-8 shooting, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Field hockey

• Grace Wallis (Mount Saint Joseph Academy) tallied an assist as No. 6 Penn State defeated No. 12 Louisville 5-0 in Friday’s NCAA Tournament first round game. The fifth-year senior also added a shot on goal for the Nittany Lions.

Wallis also started and aided the Lions to a 1-0 win over No. 16 Albany on Sunday, advancing to the NCAA Final Four this Friday.

• Sammy Popper (Germantown Academy) had a shot as Princeton fell 5-2 to Syracuse in Friday’s NCAA Tournament first round. Popper, a senior from Blue Bell, started all 18 matches this fall and tallied nine goals with two assists.

NCAA football

• Octavious Carter (La Salle) had five receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown in Ursinus’ 38-14 win over Dickinson on Saturday. Billy Cook (Archbishop Wood) had two grabs for 23 yards.

Brett Gross (Archbishop Wood) led the defense with 11 tackles, a fumble recovery and an intercepti­on. Ryan DiVergilis (Wood) made nine stops at safety, William Tatlonghar­i (La Salle) was in for seven tackles and Sean Spinosa (Germantown Academy) had three tackles.

• Jackson Taylor (Abington) made 10 tackles with two for loss and a sack, adding a forced fumble and quarterbac­k hit to lead West Chester’s defense in Saturday’s 36-27 win over Clarion. Sterlen Barr (Upper Moreland) had six tackles and blocked a kick while Shamar Edwards (North Penn) had six stops.

Quinton Derr (Upper Dublin) and Luke Stengel (Archbishop Wood) blocked for an offense that racked up 489 yards.

• Abdul Carter (La Salle) led Penn State’s defense in Saturday’s 30-0 shutout of Maryland. The freshman linebacker had seven tackles, a sack for an 11-yard loss, forced a fumble, broke up a pass and registered two quarterbac­k hits.

• Shane Hartzell (Pennridge) made three tackles for Villanova in Saturday’s 45-12 loss to William & Mary.

• Lycoming’s Billy Coppock (Archbishop Carroll) had nine receptions for 121 yards and a TD in a 21-14 loss to Misericord­ia on Saturday.

• Tyler Tate (Norristown) recorded 1.5 sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss and came up with a QB pressure as Millersvil­le defeated Seton Hill 14-10 on Saturday.

Wrestling

• Bloomsburg’s William Morrow (Harleysvil­le, Pa./ North Penn) picked up his first two wins as a Huskie with a 2-1 day and a second-place finish in the 149 bracket at the Journeymen Classic. Morrow had a bye in the first round and got an 8-0 major decision over Mike McGhee of Sacred Heart. Morrow won 6-4 over Ryan Vigil from VMI in the third round before falling to Finn Solomon of NC State 7-1 in the title match.
