Comcast is continuing its expansion efforts in Berks County. Work is underway to add more than 5,000 residents and dozens of businesses in Amity Township to its network, the company said Tuesday.

In addition, Comcast has begun providing its full suite of Xfinity and Comcast Business services to its first new customers in Exeter Township — part of an expansion in Exeter and St. Lawrence announced in May — to add more than 8,300 residents and businesses.

Comcast is scheduled to complete the Amity project in early 2024, while the projects in Exeter and St. Lawrence will be completed in 2023.

With the combined expansion projects, Comcast will be connecting 13,300 additional homes and businesses in Berks.

“We are proud to further our investment in Berks County,” Dan Bonelli, senior vice president of Comcast’s Freedom Region, which is based in Pennsylvania, said in a statement.

“Through our network expansion work in Amity, Exeter and St. Lawrence, we’re able to bring our reliable network to more homes and businesses and provide them with fast, reliable and secure internet that keeps them connected.”

Comcast representatives told MediaNews Group in May that the company has franchise agreements in the municipalities and had served customers in Exeter before the completion of the latest phase of expansion. The company also said it is always looking for additional areas to provide services where there is a clear customer demand.

Kim McGrath, chairwoman of the Amity Township supervisors, said in a statement Tuesday that the township has been fielding requests for Xfinity services for years.

“And it is our hope that bringing Comcast to the community will positively benefit those who live and work here,” McGrath said.

Comcast’s expansion in Amity, Exeter and St. Lawrence is the company’s latest investment in central and eastern Pennsylvania. In August the company completed an expansion in Honey Brook, Chester County, adding 2,000 residents and businesses. The company is also expanding service to hundreds of residents and businesses in Elverson, Chester County, according to the release.

As part of its commitment to advance digital equity in the communities it serves, the company has installed 19 Lift Zones in Berks, providing free Wi-Fi service to help promote digital learning. Lift Zones are part of Comcast’s Project UP, a 10-year, $1 billion commitment.

To find out if you are now eligible for service, Exeter and St. Lawrence residents and businesses can visit Xfinity.com, call 1-800-XFINITY or visit the Xfinity store at 2777 Papermill Road, Suite 2 in Wyomissing.
