Singleton named Big Ten Freshman of the Year

Penn State running back and Gov. Mifflin grad Nick Singleton, who has more than 1,300 all-purpose yards, was named Wednesday as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year.

Singleton has rushed for 941 yards and 10 touchdowns on 149 carries (6.3 average), has caught 11 passes for 85 yards and one TD and has returned 12 kickoffs for 310 yards (25.8 average) and one score.

He also was named to the AllBig Ten third team by the coaches and the media. On Tuesday, he was named to the second team as a return specialist by the coaches.

Singleton, the Berks County career leader in rushing yards and touchdowns, was the Gatorade National High School Football Player of the Year in 2021 and a five-star recruit.

Offensive tackle Olu Fashanu was the only Penn State player
