Stony Creek Anglers hold annual cleanup
44 volunteers ready streams for start of trout season
NORRISTOWN >> The 38th annual Stony Creek Memorial Cleanup was held on Saturday, March 30th. at the Norristown bocce cabin in Elmwood Park.
According to organizer Charles Wood, “We had 44 volunteers, cleaned 5 miles of Stony and Kepner creeks in Elmwood Park and the Norristown Farm Park. We filled a 20-yard dumpster halfway up and it was just a litter pickup. We were honoring two Stony creek members who had passed away, Joseph Stong and Charles Morris. His wife Brenda was present and she helped us out, so the annual rite of spring is in the books for the opening day of trout on Saturday

The statewide start time for the opening day of trout fishing season is 8 a.m. And the Stony Creek Anglers, according to Wood, made sure local fishermen won’t be disappointed.
“Part of the day we stocked 996 brook and rainbow trout from our nursery and they are nice and big so take the kids out and make some memories,” Wood said.
The annual cleanup is made possible by many individuals and organizations, and Wood said the Anglers are appreciative of all the time and effort, and the donations, offered this year.
“We would like to say a very heartfelt thank you to the following groups: the Municipality of Norristown for two dump truck drivers and helpers; to Louis Mascaro and Sons for a 20-yard
dumpster and removal.
“Also, to the Norristown Bocce Club for the use of the cabin as headquarters for the event kitchen and restrooms; to the Elmwood Park Zoo for wrist bands for free admission to the zoo that for volunteers; to the Norristown Maenner Chor for going 50-50 on the food preparation and delivering; to the Norristown Farm Park rangers for access and

security; to Montgomery County, PennDOT for bags, gloves and safety vests; to Lehigh Valley Dairies for drinks; to Starbucks for coffee, hot water, tea and hot chocolate and all of the set ups; to East Norriton Chic fil A for 100 breakfast sandwiches; to Sommertyme for a trailer for trash removal; to Boy Scout Troop 267 from Lower Providence Presbyterian Church; to
Beth Wood and Sydney Stevens for prepping and serving and food; to Amedeo’s for hoagie trays; to the volunteers; to the members of the Stony Creek Anglers for volunteers, organizing and trout.
“As you can see it takes a lot of cooperation to pull off a large event for 38 ears in a row. We will be back again next year; best of luck catching trout.”
