Cheese straws

Recipe from the kitchen of Dorris Mounce grandmothe­r of Dorris Annette Beard

2 c. flour

1 1/2 stick margarine or butter

1 lb. cheese (a good sharp, Wisconsin cheese)

1/2 tsp. red pepper

1/2 tsp. salt

Grate cheese. Allow cheese and butter to reach room temperatur­e. Mix cheese and butter thoroughly (east and best way is with an electric mixer).

Mix in dry ingredient­s slowly. Press into sticks with cookie press or chill, roll and cut into sticks. Sprinkle on cheese sticks lightly before baking. Bake for 20 minutes at 300 degrees. Note: These were a staple at Christmas open house parties and are delicious!
