Cheese straws
Recipe from the kitchen of Dorris Mounce grandmother of Dorris Annette Beard
2 c. flour
1 1/2 stick margarine or butter
1 lb. cheese (a good sharp, Wisconsin cheese)
1/2 tsp. red pepper
1/2 tsp. salt
Grate cheese. Allow cheese and butter to reach room temperature. Mix cheese and butter thoroughly (east and best way is with an electric mixer).
Mix in dry ingredients slowly. Press into sticks with cookie press or chill, roll and cut into sticks. Sprinkle on cheese sticks lightly before baking. Bake for 20 minutes at 300 degrees. Note: These were a staple at Christmas open house parties and are delicious!
