Lillian E. Batzel

Lillian E. Batzel, a resident of St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Center, formerly of the Green Ridge section of Scranton, died Sunday at the center. She was the widow of Edward Batzel, who died July 7, 1989.

Born in Hibbing, Minn., daughter of the late David and Judith Cavalieri, she was employed in the local garment industry before retirement.

She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, truly the epitome of what a mother should be to her children, she was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

She was a devout member of the former Trinity Baptist Church, Scranton.

Lillian’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Robert Kaville and the entire staff at St. Mary’s Villa for the wonderful care they provided.

Surviving are three sons, Dr. Edward Batzel and wife, Nancy, Covington Twp.; William Batzel and wife, Angela, Olyphant; and Daniel Batzel, Brooklyn, N.Y.; 10 grandchild­ren; four great-grandchild­ren; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jake Batzel; two brothers, David and Raymond Cavalieri; and a sister, Vanda Garzella.

Private funeral services will be Tuesday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

No public calling hours are scheduled. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made to the donor’s favorite charity. Visit the funeral home website to send an online condolence.
