100 years ago, a spokesman for the Navy an­nounced that Lack­awanna County is not meet­ing its quo­tas when it comes to re­cruits for the Navy. They said a re­cruit­ment of­fi­cer would try and reach out more to high school boys about en­list­ing. 75 years ago, Scran­ton Post­mas­ter Joseph Con­rad an­nounced some 322,925 pieces of hol­i­day mail were pro­cessed. 50 years ago, Scran­ton City Coun­cil pre­sented a $6.5 mil­lion bud­get for 1967. The bud­get con­tained no real es­tate tax in­creases and called for raises for all city em­ploy­ees. 25 years ago, Wil­liam Ri­naldi, Lack­awanna County clerk of ju­di­cial records, an­nounced that he was switch­ing his party reg­is­tra­tion to Demo­crat. 10 years ago, Weg­mans Food Mar­kets an­nounced it was pur­chas­ing a restau­rant liquor li­cense for its Dick­son City store from the Denny’s in Dick­son City.
