Income tax to rise; property tax, no

Residents of the Pioneer City will not see property taxes jump next year, but the municipal earned income tax rate will increase from 1.8 to 2 percent in 2017.

The 0.2 percent increase city council approved Monday helped balance Carbondale’s $6.13 million 2017 budget, which was also approved Monday, according to Mayor Justin Taylor.

With the hike, Carbondale expects to collect about $2.49 million in earned income tax dollars next year, Mr. Taylor said.
