Trump picks Pan­thers owner as Army sec­re­tary

Pres­i­dent-elect Don­ald Trump’s choice of Florida Pan­thers owner and Army vet­eran Vin­cent Vi­ola to be his Army sec­re­tary will put an­other bil­lion­aire in a lead­ing role in the ad­min­is­tra­tion.

Mr. Vi­ola is a West Point grad­u­ate who joins a list of in­di­vid­u­als with mil­i­tary back­grounds al­ready cho­sen for the Cabi­net. Mr. Trump’s picks for de­fense sec­re­tary, home­land se­cu­rity sec­re­tary, na­tional se­cu­rity ad­viser and deputy na­tional se­cu­rity ad­viser are re­tired mil­i­tary.

Mr. Vi­ola’s nom­i­na­tion by Mr. Trump means he will be giv­ing up his roles as chair­man and gov­er­nor of the Pan­thers hockey team, pend­ing his con­fir­ma­tion by the Se­nate. Mr. Vi­ola pur­chased the Pan­thers in 2013.
