Kvitova attacked, injured at home

Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova was injured by a knifewielding attacker at her home Tuesday and had to undergo surgery on her left hand.

An operation that took 3 hours and 45 minutes revealed the left-handed player’s injuries were “serious,” but “there’s no reason to think she wouldn’t be able to play tennis,” her spokesman Karel Tejkal said.

Kvitova sustained damage to the tendons in her left hand, along with injuries to all five fingers and two nerves, Tejkal added.
