Brenda Stratemeye­r Kilcullen, 77, of Stratham, N.H., died peacefully at home on Dec. 11, 2016.

She was the daughter of Alfred and Barbara (Emerson) Kirton of Bedford, Mass. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Kilcullen of Stratham, a native of Scranton, Pa.; daughter Katherine Stratemeye­r Franz of Peterboro, N.H.; and sons, Jason, of Whidbey Island, Wash.; Peter, of Westford, Mass.; and Charles, of Durango, Colo.; and six granddaugh­ters; as well as brothers, Peter Kirton, of Bedford; and Alfred Kirton, of Franklin, Mass.; and a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Kilcullen, of Roaring Brook Twp., Pa.

She attended Bedford Junior High School, graduated from Concord Massachuse­tts High School in 1957, attended Massachuse­tts College of Art and graduated magna cum laude from Springfiel­d College School of Human Services in 1995.

Brenda was employed for many years at St. Joseph Hospital, Nashua, N.H. She worked in human services on the New Hampshire Seacoast after graduating from Springfiel­d, and was employed as a docent at the John Paul Jones House, Portsmouth, N.H., and the Hamilton House, South Berwick, Maine.

Her volunteer activities include 17 years in the Offenders Program at New Hampshire State Prison and at CASA of Dover, N.H.

Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to CASA, Dover, N.H., or the Portsmouth Historical Society, Portsmouth or New England Historical Society, Haverhill, Mass.

A private memorial service will be held.
