Dec. 21, 1966: A small ad with a smiling Santa Claus reminded readers of The Scranton Times that they only had three shopping days left before Christmas. If you still needed a gift or two, stores in the area had you covered.

Those looking for candy could pick up a pound of almond butter crunch for $1.29 at Charl-Mont Fine Candies at the Globe Store or a 5-pound box of assorted chocolates for $8.25 at Scranton Dry Goods.

Fantasyland of Toys at the Globe Store, meanwhile, had gifts for the little ones. Tricycles were $9.98, a red wagon was $7.98, and Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls were $3.49 each.

If you needed a dress for a last-minute holiday gathering, Scranton Dry Goods had party dresses starting at $11.98.

Still in a need of tree? Rave’s Christmas Wonderland in Clarks Summit had fresh-cut Christmas trees starting at $1.98, or a 7-foot artificial tree for $17.99.

When it came to Christmas dinner, frozen turkeys were 39 cents per pound, whole smoked hams were 53 cents per pound, and store-made smoked kielbasa was 79 cents per pound at Steckel’s Market on East Drinker Street, Dunmore. At Giant Markets, Shadowbrook Farms egg nog was 65 cents a quart, extra fancy mixed nuts were 49 cents per pound, and a 1-pound can of Maxwell House Coffee was 75 cents.

If you were all set with your shopping and just needed to unwind, the Cave on Main Avenue, West Scranton, was the place to go. It had the Poets and the Super Egos performing with new, psychedelic lighting effects straight from New York City.
