Authorities from the state attorney general’s office and Scranton police seized more than four ounces of crack when they pulled a car over earlier this week in the city.

Agents arrested Richard Walton and Niesha Toon, both of 1007 N. Webster Ave., and charged them with drug crimes, according to a criminal complaint.

Police spotted Walton’s 2017 Ford Taurus at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday along Moosic Street and pulled the car over for a felony drug warrant. The attorney general’s office had filed a separate complaint for drug charges against Walton, 37, two days earlier in Luzerne County. Agents immediately arrested him.

The driver, Toon, 28, kept making “furtive movements on the side and underneath her seat” and didn’t comply with commands to keep her hands in clear view, so police ordered her and a 3-year-old boy in the back seat out of the car, according to the complaint.

A drug dog sniffed out narcotics in a glove box near where Walton sat in the front passenger seat. Inside, authorities found crack that weighed 128 grams, including the plastic packaging, or about 4½ ounces.

A field test of the drugs came back positive for cocaine, police said.

Magisterial District Judge George E. Seig arraigned and jailed both Thursday at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail for Walton and $75,000 for Toon.

Preliminary hearings are scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday.
