The governor on Friday signed a ban at eight weeks, among the most restrictive abortion policies in the nation.

Judges block bans:

A federal judge in Mississippi temporarily blocked a law banning most abortions and a federal judge in North Carolina formally struck down a 20-week ban.

The American Civil Liberties Union and Planned Parenthood sued to block a law that bans almost all abortions.

A “low force” blast hit a busy pedestrian street Friday in the French city of Lyon, injuring seven people as it shattered the glass from a refrigerated shop cooler in a bakery, a local official said.

France’s anti-terrorist office opened an inquiry into the blast and the antiterrorism prosecutor went to Lyon. The interior minister also was on site, and soldiers secured the area.

French media quoted a Lyon official as saying that an image of the man who deposited a sack or suitcase that apparently exploded was captured by surveillance cameras.
