Turner Classic Movies’ weeklong look at films from different decades that are led by female characters and depict various aspects of how women’s jobs and careers affect their lives continues tonight with five titles from the 1940s: His Girl Friday (1940), featuring Rosalind Russell; Mildred Pierce (1945), led by Best Actress Oscar winner Joan Crawford; Adam’s Rib (1949) and Woman of the Year (1942), both starring Katharine Hepburn (the latter film earned her a Best Actress nomination); and Millions Like Us (1943), a British propaganda docudrama following the lives of some women working in a wartime aircraft factory.
