FAIRLESS HILLS, Pa. — Although this is still a work in progress, you have to like what’s going on with the Pennsbury wrestling team under new coach Phil Kealey.

Upping its record to 6-1, Pennsbury destroyed archrival Neshaminy by the score of 47-23 last night.

While its true Neshaminy (3-5) is not exactly a powerhouse, keep in mind the Redskins did beat Council Rock South last month. With that in mind, Pennsbury appears very much in the SONL hunt along with teams like Council Rock North.

Two things stood out about Pennsbury last night:

One was the Falcons were very aggressive from top. Pennsbury also appears in very good shape and was able to go strong for six minutes when required.

“We’re getting there, but we still have a lot to work on,’’ said Kealey. “I was happy with the way we wrestled tonight.’’

Truth be told, the match started at a good place for the Falcons at 195 pounds and they took full advantage by bolting to a 19-0 lead to settle the match before it barely got started.

Mike O’brien got it rolling with a major at 195. After a Neshaminy forfeit at 220, Falcon heavywweight Mike Zuccarelli put in a wicked half nelson to finish off Chris Wild in 5:16.

This led to a 4-2 win by Falcon 106-pounder Eric Mongello in which he was able to record late back points against Sam Rudolph. Start up the bus. Neshaminy had some bright spots from there, but the Falcons have a lot of weights covered and were only pinned twice all night.

“It’s been a point of emphisis’’ said Kealey when asked about the way many of his wrestlers worked non stop from the top position. “It’s something we really want to keep improving.’’

About the only bummer for Pennsbury came at 113 when Dom Stabilito headlocked Dom Martoccio to his back an the 6:52 mark of overtime.

Neshaminy also got an impressive win at 126 when Harry Wilson nearley majored Anthony Diemidio in a 12-5 win This was particularly impressive because Diemidio nearly decked Wilson with a five-point play in the first period.

Wilson’s pin drew Neshaminy to within 25-8, but then Falcon standout Josh Disanto used a quarter nelson to pin at 132.

Pennsbury later got pins from Dave Mills (152) and Ernie Tessein (182) to win going away. Pennsbury’s Luke Kowal was also able to record bonus at 145 when he used a late cradle to major Pat Hastings, 10-1. Pennsbury (6-1) 47 Neshaminy (3-5) 23 195-O’brien (P) d.
