LOWER MAKEFIELD, Pa. DUI: A 28-year-old Ewing man was arrested after being stopped for traffic violations on Sept. 21 on Interstate 95. Kyle Christophe­r Pittman, of Ewing was found to be impaired by Pennsylvan­ia State Police.

In addition to being under the influence the 28--year-old also was driving on a suspended license. Police said that Pittman agreed to a blood test and his blood alcohol content was pending test analysis.

Police processed and released Pittman and said the case will proceed via summons.

Fido saves the day: On Sept. 14, in the 1500 block of Applewood Circle, reported at 3:14 a.m.

A homeowner reported that someone entered the unlocked vehicle and utilized the automatic garage opener remote to gain entry into the residence. Suspect fled after hearing a dog barking in the residence.

Fleeing suspect: On the 500 block of W. Trenton Avenue, reported at 2:05 a.m. Police on patrol attempted to stop a vehicle for violations.

The suspect fled the scene at a high rate of speed and the officer terminated the pursuit.

The officer later found the vehicle crashed into the Calhoun Street Bridge and observed the suspect running. Further investigat­ion led to the arrest of the 28-year-old male driver from Lawrencevi­lle for driving under the influence, fleeing and eluding officers, resisting arrest, obstructin­g law enforcemen­t and related charges.

CAMDEN Smuggler: A former correction­s officer is now headed to jail for smuggling contraband in and out of a federal prison in southern New Jersey where he worked.

Thirty-nine-year-old Job Brown of Bridgeton was recently sentenced to a year and a day in prison.

He also must serve three years of supervised release once he’s freed.

Brown had pleaded guilty in June to accepting bribes, admitting that he received $3,600 between January and March 2012.

Prosecutor­s say Brown smuggled in tobacco and vitamin supplement­s to a prisoner at the Federal Correction­al Institutio­n in Fairton and smuggled out about 900 postage stamps for the same inmate.

Tobacco is prohibited at the facility, as are vitamins not purchased through the prison commissary.

Inmates also are not allowed to possess more than 60 stamps. (AP)
