After a long wait, Osmun wins modified Twin Twenty

NEW EGYPT — It’s been said “all good things come to he who waits.”

Willie Osmun, the winner of Saturday night’s thrice-postponed second leg of the April 28th modified Twin Twenties at New Egypt Speedway, would certainly confirm that.

In the race, after a false start, pole-sitter Tommy Carberry Jr. powered into the lead and briefly paced the field before conceding to Osmun on lap three.

A half-dozen laps later, Billy Pauch Jr. dispossessed Osmun of the lead, though Osmun didn’t fade and got close at times but couldn’t make the re-pass.

That all changed on lap 15 when lapped traffic came into play. As Pauch Jr. exited turn two with Osmun right on his back bumper, they encountered backmarker Dominick Buffalino. Pauch Jr. attempted a low-side pass but was blocked by Buffalino. The pick gave Osmun the opportunity he needed and he used the high-side to sweep past both Pauch Jr. and Buffalino back into the lead.

Osmun then defended his position from Pauch Jr. over the final go-rounds — surviving a last-lap caution that set up a greenchecker finish — to record his second win of the season by just a tick over a half-second.

Um, make that five months and a half-second.

The ARDC midget feature was won by Alex Bright.

In the race, Mark Gilmore jumped into the lead at the green and led most of the way before yielding to Bright with just three laps remaining.

The TSRS sprint feature had just gone green when the caution came out for drizzle, which minutes later became a deluge, bringing the night to a halt.

The make-up dates for both the TSRS feature and the regular modified 30-lap event have yet to be determined.
