ND, Hightstown girls look strong in CVC

- Staff Report

As the Colonial Valley Conference girls soccer season nears the halfway point, Notre Dame and Hightstown are leading the race for division titles.

Amy Hoyer’s Irish and Don Hess’ Rams stepped outside the CVC and posted impressive wins over the weekend.

The Irish, leading the CVC Colonial race, bounced back from their first loss of the season — at Hopewell Valley on Thursday — to improve to 6-1 with a 3-0 win over Conwell-Egan Catholic.

Hightstown, the CVC Valley Division leader, got two more goals from its sensational sophomore Dakota Mills for a 5-1 win over Monroe to raise its record to 5-1-0.

Vanessa Romulus scored her seventh goal of the season off a Christal Ramharack pass to start ND on the way to its big win. Freshman Ty Horne added her fourth goal this season off an Eva Guarna assist before freshman Julia Pank scored her fifth goal with an assist from Amanda Archer.

Irish goalies Tori Binz and Tori Fantozzi combined for seven saves to record the shutout.

Hightstown’s five-goal explosion saw Mills assist on the opening goal by Alexa Lopez to start the Ramns rolling. Lopez would score unassisted for a 2-0 lead then assist Amy Sandoval’s goal in the second half. Mills converted passes from Lydia Walsh and Lisa Jerry, who also played part of the game in goal, recorded seven saves.
