Princeton field hockey falls to Syracuse

PRINCETON — Leonie Geyer and Emma Russell scored secondhalf goals, securing a 2-0 victory for second-ranked Syracuse over thirdranke­d Princeton in a battle of two of the nation’s best teams.

Katie Reinprecht had the Tigers’ best chance early in the first half, but was stopped by Orange goalie Leann Stiver.

Geyer scored in the 55th minute whiel Russell’s came in the 65th. Syracuse outshot Princeton, 16-10. Christina Maida made eight saves for Princeton (7-1). Syracuse improved to 9-0.

Rutgers 4, Cornell 3 (OT) PISCATAWAY — Christine Lonsky netted her second goal of the afternoon in overtime, helping the Scarlet Knights (5-5) bounce back from a loss to Syracuse.

Sophie Wright and Lisa Patrone added the other two tallies for Rutgers.

Men’s Soccer Princeton 2, Fairleigh Dickinson 0

PRINCETON — Thomas Sanner scored in the 16th minute to get Princeton off to a fast start and his brother, Matt, added a second in the 44th, propelling the Tigers to a victory over Fairleigh Dickinson in the Princeton Invitation­al.

Seth MacMillan made five saves for the Tigers (4-3), earning the shutout.

Penn 7, Rider 2 PRINCETON — Stephen Baker scored four times, Duke Lacroix added two and the Quakers kept the Broncs winless with a 7-2 thrashing in the Princeton Invitation­al.

Dave Benavides and Ryan Walsh netted for Rider (0-7), which trailed 4-0 at halftime.

Women’s Soccer Marquette 2, Rutgers 0 PISCATAWAY — Taylor Madigan and Maegan Kelly were on target in the first half as the Golden Eagles (72-1, 3-0) sent the Scarlet Knights (8-4, 1-3) to a third conference loss.

Madigan opened the scoring in the 19th minute, beating Rutgers goalkeeper Jessica Janosz on her near post. Kelly double the advantage four minutes later, outpacing two defenders and slamming a shot into the top corner.

The Knights have lost three of four — all at home in the Big East.
