HAMILTON — John A. “Smitty” Smith, 87 of Hamilton Township, passed away on Sunday at home. Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong area resident. John served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired after 43 years from PSE&G as a maintenanc­e supervisor. He was a parishione­r of St. Raphael’s Parish and a past volunteer of the Sunnybrae Little League.

He was the husband of the late Dolores (Harrison) Smith, to whom he was married for 57 years, son of the late Jack C. and Mary T. Smith, brother of the late William Smith and Florence Owens, grandfathe­r of the late Courtney Noel Battista and fatherin-law of the late Anthony J. Battista. He is survived by his children, Cynthia Battista of Hamilton, John Smith Jr. and wife Eileen Migliacci-Smith of North Hanover, and Joseph M. Smith and wife Anne of Bordentown; his grandchild­ren, Zachary Battista, Brielle and Jaclyn Smith, Corey, Justin, and Dylan Smith; his sister-in-law, Eileen Smith and his brother-in-law, Chut Harrison and wife Ann. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m. from the Kingston and Kemp Funeral Home, 260 White Horse Ave., Hamilton.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Raphael’s Parish, 3500 S. Broad St., Hamilton. Interment will be private. Calling hours will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
