Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is counseling the hothead mobs in the streets of Cairo to cease their anti-America chants and extinguish their U.S. Flag bonfires. Instead, she wants those who are shouting “We are Osama bin Laden!” to join with us “in advancing our common humanity.” Let’s invest in folks’ “creativity,” she says, not in inciting folks’ rage. Let’s “stand together” in support of Egypt’s “democratic transition,” she adds.

Yeah, let’s do all of that. But first maybe we’d better call in the Tooth Fairy to do some angermanagement counseling with the mobs and attend to some Egyptian attitude adjustment. In a 2010 poll by the Pew Research Center, fully 80 percent of Egyptians indicated their support for stoning to death anyone accused of turning away from Islam, as well as likewise dispatching with women accused of adultery, as Investor’s Business Daily recently reminded us.

The Pew poll also found that: 77 percent of Egyptians favor cutting off the hands of defendants in cases of theft; 55 percent favor segregating women in public places, and 54 percent say that suicide bombings that kill and/or maim innocent civilians may be justified under certain circumstances. With the Muslim Brotherhood — whose leading lights once backed Adolf Hitler — now ruling the Egyptian roost, it comes as little surprise that fully 95 percent of respondents told the Pew polltakers they favor “a large role” in government for Islam.
