Last week’s rain-outs will race tomorrow
The weather-provoked schedule changes at New Egypt Speedway just keep on a coming.
The latest “nuts to you” from Mother Nature was last week when, following the completion of the second leg of the April 28th modified Twin Twenties and the ARDC midget feature, storms arrived just as the TSRS sprints took the green flag. The regularlyscheduled modified feature, last on the program, was also a wash.
With the season drawing to a close and the accompanying special events – notably, Super DIRT Week XLI at the NY State Fairgrounds in Syracuse and the 51st annual Eastern States Weekend at the Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, NY – a non-conflicting date was almost an impossibility.
NES’ solution was simple: Last week’s two rainout features – the starting fields were set before the monsoon – will go to the post tomorrow.
The schedule originally called for Twin Twenties to determine the 2012 modified championship. Instead, the modifieds will, after contesting the rain-out feature early-on, compete in a single 30-lap feature that will carry double points.
The TSRS sprints, which were supposed to have run their final race of the season at NES last week, will follow the same format as the big blocks – held-over feature early and then a complete show of heat races and a second main event.
There is, however, a casualty.
With the addition of the TSRS sprints, the URC sprints, which were scheduled to make their second appearance of the year at NES, have been axed.
“It was a tough decision to make, but the weather has really hurt us over the past two months,” said NES manager Danny Serrano. “We talked to the URC and they completely understand our situation, which is all you can ask for.”
The outlaw stocks will still be a part of the show. However, there will be no qualifying with starting positions determined via a “pill” draw.
In an event of another postponement – and brother, the forecast wasn’t looking too racefriendly – the same format will be held on October 13 at “Rocktoberfest”.
