TRENTON — A Trenton resident was arrested Wednesday and charged with distribution and possession charges after police interrupted an alleged drug transaction.

Jawaan Foreman, 29, is charged with distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance near a school zone, intent to distribute near a park, possession of marijuana over 50 grams, obstructing administration of law and resisting arrest.

Police sources say that around 6 p.m. Wednesday Officers Stewart Owens and Joseph D’Ambrosio were in the area of West State Street and South Fisher Place when they noticed two men huddled together. According to police, when the men saw the officers their eyes widened in surprise and Foreman dropped a bag of what appeared to be marijuana.

“We believe they interrupted a drug transaction,” Trenton Police Lt. Mark Kieffer said Thursday afternoon.

The officers ordered the men to stop, but Foreman took off running down West State Street; and during the chase, Kieffer said, tossed another bag of what police believe to be marijuana.

According to Kieffer, Foreman finally stopped running when he reached the rear of a residence on Atterbury Avenue. The officers then retraced their steps and recovered the two bags of alleged marijuana and placed Foreman under arrest.

The second suspect was not apprehended.
