CVS employee allegedly steals over 6,000 pills for distribution
WESTAMPTON — A CVS employee was arrested last week for allegedly stealing 6,220 prescription medication pills from the store and distributing them.
Austin Summerville, 21, is charged with theft of movable property, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, obtaining a controlled dangerous substance by deception, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, prohibited weapon stun gun, possession of marijuana under 50 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia and certain prescription drugs not in original container.
According to law enforcement, CVS loss prevention personnel contacted police Thursday and reported that Summerville, an employee of the store, was in custody for allegedly stealing medication. When police arrived at the store, the CVS loss prevention manager further told them that between December 2012 and October 2013 Summerville had stolen 6,220 various prescription medication pills from the pharmacy section and distributed them. Police say the total value of the pills is estimated at $3,525.
Police say that while in custody, Summerville told the officers that a stun gun and stolen prescription medications were in his vehicle, which was parked outside the pharmacy. According to police, Summerville then gave the officers consent to search his Toyota Camry, where they found the stun gun, prescription drugs and a small quantity of marijuana.
After being booked and charged at the Westampton Township Police Department, Summerville was released on a personal promise to appear at all scheduled court hearings in the case.
